Shōtoku (Japanese:正徳) was a Japanese era name (年号, nengō, lit. year name) after Hōei and before Kyōhō. This period spanned the years from 1711 through 1716. The reigning emperor was Nakamikado-tennō (中御門天皇).

Change of Era

  • Shōtoku gannen (正徳元年) or Shōtoku 1 (1711): The era name of Shōtoku (meaning "Righteous Virtue") was created to mark the enthronement of Emperor Nakamikado. The previous era ended and the new one commenced in Hōei 8, on the 25th day of the 4th month.
