Shahrzad (Persian: شهرزاد) is an Iranian romantic/historical series. The series is written by Hassan Fathi and Naghmeh Samini and directed by Hassan Fathi [1] [2] [3] The story line is set around and after the 1953 Iranian coup d'état. The Shahrzad series is licensed by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Iran and available online and in CDs around the country. The series stars Taraneh Alidousti, Shahab Hosseini, Ali Nassirian, and Mostafa Zamani.[4]
Storyline
Shahrzad, a medical student, and her fiance Farhad, a literature student and a journalist, are living in 1950s. They often date at the Cafe Naderi, a hub for intellectuals in 1950s' Tehran. After the coup Farhad, who is also a supporter of deposed Prime Minster Mossadegh, is jailed with allegation of murder. In the military court he sentenced to death by firing scud but at the last moment he is freed by the order of one of the coup's influential figures whom Farhad's dad work for him.
Freed from the jail and survived from his trial sentence find everything is drastically changing from bad to worse. The leaders of the coup taking control of economy, limit the freedom of speeches, and also ban Farhad's paper. But the worst come once Shahrzad breaks up with Farhad.
