Sharon Veronica LaFraniere (born June 15, 1957) is an American journalist who has covered southern Africa and China for The New York Times. Since returning to the United States, she has covered domestic topics extensively including military hospitals, gun violence, and the roll-out of healthcare.gov.
LaFraniere previously wrote for The Washington Post in Moscow.
Her other roles at the Post include:
- investigative reporter in the Metro section

- acting deputy national editor

Personal
LaFraniere is married to Michael Wines, who is also a reporter for the Times. They have three children, Brett, Jack, and Nikki.
