Sheikh Waqas Akram (Urdu: شیخ وقاص اکرم; born 26 August 1976) is a Pakistani politician and a former Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from Jhang.[1][2] He was the Minister of State for Labour and Manpower.

Education

He holds a Masters degree in Information Systems Management from Central Queensland University. He did his bachelors from Government College Lahore in History and Journalism. He did his matriculation from Abbottabad public School. He remained the Federal Minister of Education . He organised Malala Fund Event in Paris with the help of UNESCO. He also did graduate diploma in management from Griffith Australia.[citation needed]

Political career

He won Pakistani general election, 2008 from NA-89 on PML-Q ticket.[3] Previously, he had been Parliamentary Secretary of economic Affairs division, also remained Chairman standing committee on Petroleum and natural resources and a senior vice President of PML-Q. He was Member of National Assembly of Pakistan and Minister of State for Labor and Manpower. He was the Federal minister of Education in Asif Ali Zardari govt as a coalition partner of the govt. He could not take part in 2013 general elections because returning officer rejected his nomination papers based on a letter sent by HEC.[4] He later challenged his rejection in a higher court Tribunal which allowed him to contest Election[citation needed].He decided not to contest the elections. According to agencies he is still the biggest force behind his group in Jhang (City In Punjab Province) and the only man standing against SSP and LeJ[citation needed]. He is one of the prominent leaders of PML (N)(Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz Group)).

Family

His family members include Sheikh Fawad Akram, Gullsher Hussain Khan, Sheikh Nawaz Akram. One of the most powerful personalities in the area.
