Sheldon Creed (born September 30, 1997) is an American professional off-road racing driver. Nicknamed "The Showstopper",[2] he currently competes full-time in the Speed Energy Formula Off-Road series, driving the No. 1 Traxxas truck, while also running full-time in the ARCA Racing Series, driving the No. 38 Ford for Lira Motorsports.
Racing career
Creed first started racing when he was three, riding BMX bikes and winning a state championship two years later. The next year, he started racing motocross, winning two Barona MX Park championships in 2005. Afterwards, he was invited to KTM's Jr Supercross Challenge, finishing second. At the age of eight, Creed began competing in Quarter Midget racing, eventually moving to Championship Off-Road Racing's Trophy Karts. Creed won a championship in each year of Trophy Kart competition, and also won the 2012 Superlite championship. The 2013 season saw Creed competing in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS), finishing in the top three in points.[3] The following year, he won the Pro Lite championship.[4] Creed also joined the Stadium Super Trucks, making his debut at Qualcomm Stadium, where he recorded the fastest lap time in qualifying[5] before finishing second in the final event to Robby Gordon.[6] He eventually recorded his first SST win at Honda Indy Toronto, becoming the youngest driver to win an SST event after doing so at the age of 15.[7]
In 2014, Creed ran all 16 races of the SST schedule[8] (now known as Speed Energy Formula Off-Road)[9] finishing second in points with three wins and nine podiums.[8] He also recorded a second-place finish at X Games Austin 2014 behind Apdaly Lopez.[10]
Creed began the 2015 Formula Off-Road season in Adelaide, winning the second race.[11] In the third round, Creed finished in third while landing sideways and flipping across the finish line before landing back on his wheels.[12] Later in the year, he won the gold medal at X Games Austin 2015, taking advantage of the holeshot to win.[13] Creed battled with Gordon throughout the season, capitalizing on Gordon's misfortunes at Surfers Paradise and MGM Grand Las Vegas to win the championship.[14] He ended the season with nine wins and 13 podiums.[15]
In early 2016, Creed made his Dakar Rally debut, and at the age of 18, became the youngest driver to compete in the event.[16] However, on Stage 8, Creed suffered from clutch issues and elected to skip waypoints due to the time limit, resulting in his disqualification from the event.[17] In Formula Off-Road, he switched to No. 1 for the year, and won the season opener at Adelaide.[18]
Stock car racing
In 2014 and 2015, Creed competed in the World Series of Asphalt Pro Late Model championship at New Smyrna Speedway, finishing third in the standings during the latter.[19]
In March 2016, Creed tested an ARCA Racing Series stock car for Lira Motorsports at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville.[20] On April 6, the team announced Creed would compete full-time in the series for the 2016 season, driving the No. 38 Ford.[21] Creed finished seventh in his debut at Nashville.[22]
In July, Creed made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut at Eldora Speedway, driving the No. 07 for SS-Green Light Racing. After finishing fifth in his heat race,[23] he started 25th in the feature and finished 16th, two laps behind race winner Kyle Larson.[24]
