Siblings is a BBC Three comedy series starring Charlotte Ritchie and Tom Stourton in the lead roles. Written by Keith Akushie, the show piloted on 7 August 2014. A second series was commissioned by the BBC on 10 September 2014, before the first series had finished airing, which begun broadcasting on 4 January 2016.[4][5][6]

The last episode of the second series aired on 8 February 2016. It is currently unknown if the show will return for a third series. However if the series was renewed for a third series it would be aired on the new online version of BBC Three or be picked up from another network.

Plot

A series following the life of a brother and sister, Hannah and Dan, who share a flat as they look to lead easy lives and end up causing utter chaos.

The show was filmed in and around West London, England.[2]

Cast

  • Charlotte Ritchie as Hannah, proud of her job, but too lazy to do it properly. Wherever she can she tries to get herself time off or something else to make it easier. When she isn't at work or resolving Dan's mess, she tries to find some way to party.
  • Tom Stourton as Dan, Hannah's eccentric, hyperactive and dull-witted brother. He tries to be charming and seems easily impressed. He, when left alone, will get up to mischief.

When her alcoholic boss Andy is sacked lazy Hannah seeks to impress his successor Annette Walker by claiming that, like Annette's son Charlie, her brother Dan is also in a wheelchair. In fact he is a selfish, immature scrounger though he hits it off with Annette and Charlie despite overdoing his account of his 'accident'. Whilst Annette and Hannah get drunk at a conference and have a threesome with a young waiter Dan joins Charlie's wheelchair basketball team and scores the winning goal - though he betrays his deception by getting up to do a victory dance. However the threat of the threesome being exposed means that Annette allows Hannah to keep her job.

When Hannah's best friend Sadie returns from holiday with her handsome vet boyfriend Rich, announcing their engagement Hannah is jealous though she does attend the engagement party, where her rude present is not rapturously received. Dan warms to Rich who gives him a job as his receptionist, sadly unaware of how gormless he is. Hannah persuades Sadie to have a girl's night out and nearly kills her when she drugs her drink whilst Dan's total stupidity costs Rich his practice and the couple break all ties with the siblings.

Hannah goes to give a careers talk at her old school and impresses pupil Ellie, whom she takes on for work experience. Ellie is enthusiastic and efficient and lazy Hannah exploits this though when Ellie fights back Hannah uses dirty tricks to get rid of her. Dan has accompanied Hannah to the school and befriended three thirteen-year-old nerds, whom he brings home to play games with. Learning that they have been bullied by the younger brother of the boy who used to bully him Dan organizes a fight in the playground to get his belated revenge but is surprised when a teacher turns up to stop the fight, reveals his identity and tells Dan the real reason for his being bullied.

The siblings' mother Marion insists that Hannah looks after her for two days whilst she is temporarily blind after laser eye surgery but Hannah feels enslaved by her. Dan dates Izzy, the free-spirited doctor he met at the STD clinic and falls in love. Hannah and Dan take Marion to Izzy's party where Hannah and Marion bond when they take revenge on Izzy's strait-laced flatmate Pete though the bonding ends when Marion gets her sight back and is not happy for Hannah to attend her Tae-Kwan-Do class. Dan's attempts to prove to Izzy meanwhile attempts to prove to Izzy that he is a sexual being, as he was left heart-broken when he found Izzy having sex with a flat mate in a cupboard. It ends horribly for Dan when he electrocutes himself with two dildos wired to a car battery.

High-flyer Gavin from the flat below asks Dan to feed his tropical fish whilst he is away. Miraculously the fish survive but, having the key to the flat, Dan passes himself off as Gavin, throwing a party at the flat. Here he has sex with Gavin's ex-girlfriend before the real Gavin returns and throws him out. Hannah falls for busker and ex-rock star Bryn, now a born again Christian who has eschewed sex before marriage. Desperate to get into his pants Hannah reunites his old group but still misses out as now he only wants sex with groupies.

Hannah and Dan attend the funeral of their old drama teacher Mr Balcombe, where Hannah is thrilled to see Adam Piper, the boy who gave her her first kiss and Dan meets his equally brain-dead friends Jack and Sheriff, who egg him on to do stupid things - like ingesting all of Mr Balcombe's medication. Hannah seduces Adam but is dismayed to learn that he did not give her that first kiss and is thrown out for trying to find out who did. Dan is too ill to help after swallowing all those pills.

When her doctor tells her she is dangerously unfit, Hannah begrudgingly starts to eat healthily and heads to the gym. There she meets Lucy, who introduces her to the world of women's rugby. Finally, Hannah has found a sport that suits her - in one training session she gets out 24 years of aggression. Meanwhile, Dan has managed to get himself a cleaning job at Hannah's office. There he befriends Kevin, who is sleeping under his desk after separating from his wife. Dan takes it upon himself to turn Kevin's life around, with inevitably dangerous results.

Perpetually jobless Dan is in debt to his mother Marion. That means that Dan has to become Marion's dance partner at her local salsa class. But when Marion's sister, Leslie, turns up unannounced, Dan decides to rebel. Aunt Leslie teaches him that you can take whatever you want from society and never have to give anything back. Meanwhile, Hannah is dreading heading in to work for the annual audit. However, criminal activity in the office above means that all staff get the week off while police investigate. Hannah becomes convinced she's having an uninterrupted week of lucky breaks, which culminates in the chance to appear in a music video with her favourite R&B stars.

Hannah embarks on a dating frenzy after signing up to the latest new app - but the guys she meets are never as hot or cool as their profiles suggest. Meanwhile, Dan finds himself in hospital after a spot of DIY goes badly wrong. There he meets Frank, a one-time adventurer who doesn't have many more days left to live. Dan finds himself hooked on Frank's incredible travel stories and the two quickly strike up a friendship.

Hannah and Dan's father, Gregg, has organised himself a birthday - something Hannah finds out of character. Gregg explains that Hannah has ruined all his other relationships, so it's no wonder he kept it quiet. Hannah decides to prove her dad wrong. Meanwhile, Dan decides to spend a week working alongside his property developer father in a bid to get a permanent job with him. However, when Dan meets Gregg's business associate Mr Yakamoto, things quickly go awry.

Hannah takes great delight in joining George for a series of boardroom firings, but has she bitten off more than she can chew?

Dan’s best friend Jack is getting married to the incredibly wealthy Ophelia, and Hannah is his plus one for the big day. Meanwhile, Hannah makes an enemy of Ophelia's father Charles. As the day proceeds, Hannah and Dan find themselves at the centre of events to disastrous consequences.
