Signature Sounds Recordings is an independent record label specializing in singer-songwriter, Americana, and modern folk music. Jim Olsen and Mark Thayer founded the label in 1995 to promote the acoustic artists playing in the Northampton, Massachusetts music scene. The label has served as the career launching pad for several important singer-songwriters including Josh Ritter, Erin McKeown, Mary Gauthier & Lori McKenna. The label's many albums are distributed in the U.S. by E1 Entertainment, in Canada by True North Records and throughout the U.K. and Europe by Continental Record Services (CRS).

History

Thayer previously established the Signature Sounds Recording Studio in 1982 and joined with Olsen in 1995 to create the label. The studio in Pomfret, Connecticut (is a separate company) has recorded numerous folk and jazz musicians including many of the Signature Sounds recordings.[1] The label's main office moved in 2012 from its original location in Whately, Massachusetts to a more prominent site in downtown Northampton, Massachusetts. The new offices include an intimate music venue, called The Parlor Room, in which concerts are held regularly.
