Geography

From Sillian, it is fairly easy to drive into Lienz, and onto Italy.

Sillian (1103 m) is the centre of the East Tyrolean “Hochpustertal”.

Sillian lies between the famous South Tyrolean Dolomites and the Lienzer Dolomites. Sillian is the largest place between Lienz and Bruneck.

Personalities

Richard Strauss stayed at the Schwarzer Adler (Black Eagle) hotel, and is purported to have played the hotel piano, and even to have composed there.[citation needed]

Sights

The ancient square is interesting as it features a pillary, which was mostly used to punish adulterous women.

Climate

The weather in Sillian is extremely changeable due to its location, and it can quickly change from warm and balmy to sub-zero.

Tourism

There are 1200 guest beds of all categories available, as for example the Bergland in the center of Sillian.
