Sinch is a cloud based communications company based in San Francisco and Stockholm. Sinch allows developers to quickly and easily add voice, instant messaging and SMS features to their apps, using their SDK and REST API. This allows developers to let their apps make and receive phone calls, instant messages and text messages within their apps.

History

Creation

Sinch was founded in May 2014[2] by Andreas Bernström in Stockholm and San Francisco.

Originally the technology behind Rebtel, Sinch was spun-out with $12 million in funding, focusing on the mobile first, app developer market.

Sinch launched its Voice and Instant Messaging[3] products in May 2014, and quickly launched their SMS API[4] product at the end of 2014.

Today, Sinch has a team of 50 between their Stockholm and San Francisco offices.

Technology

The Sinch platform is based on Voice over IP, WebRTC, PSTN, SMS, Verification and Instant Messaging technologies to power its products.

Sinch provides an SDK for developers to add to their app and get access to the Sinch product range. This is available for iOS, Android and JavaScript.[5]

Features

Sinch lets any developer download and use their SDK for free. Revenue comes in credits for app to phone calls and SMS messages, as well as a number of packages based on the size of an apps user base and their usage of the Sinch platform.

Awards

Sinch was listed as Lead411's 2014 Hottest San Francisco Companies,[6] and CEO and Founder Andreas was announced as one of The 9 Most Innovative People in VoIP in 2014.[7]
