Snorri Thorfinnsson

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Haukurth (talk | contribs) at 22:25, 23 July 2008 (Source for that claim? A correct matronymic would be ''Guðríðarson'' but I can't find anything on that.). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Snorri Þorfinnsson (likely born between 1005 and 1013) was the son of Þorfinnur Karlsefni and Guðríður Eiríksdóttir. He was purported to be born in Vinland, making him the first European to be born in North America.

Family

According to the Vinland sagas when Snorri was three, the family returned to Glaumbær Iceland. Snorri had two children, a daughter Hallfrid, and a son Thorgeir. Hallfrid was the mother of Thorlak Runolfsson who became a bishop. Thorgeir was the father of Yngvild who was also the mother of a bishop.
