Sorokdo (Sorok island) is an island in Goheung, Jeolla, South Korea. "Sorok" means "small deer", which the island is supposed to resemble.[clarification needed]
Travelling to Sorokdo
It takes five minutes to reach Sorokdo from Nokdong-hang (Nokdong harbor) in Goheung. As of 3 March 2009, Sorok-Daegyo (bridge) is open for traffic.
Leper Colony
Sorokdo is the site of a leper colony with a history of patient abuse including slave labor, forced sterilizations, and starvation, under both Japanese and Korean administration.[1][2]
