Overview & History

The Southern Connecticut Gas Company (SCG) is a natural gas distribution company that delivers natural gas and energy services to more than 185,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers along or near the Long Island Sound shoreline. SCG is a subsidiary of Avangrid.

Through its predecessor companies, New Haven Gas and Bridgeport Gas, SCG has served the shoreline region of southern Connecticut for more than 160 years. The company’s service territory includes the Connecticut cities of Bridgeport and New Haven, as well as the towns of Easton, Fairfield, Stratford, Trumbull, Westport and Weston in Fairfield County; Branford, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Milford, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, West Haven and Woodbridge in New Haven County; and Clinton, Westbrook, Essex and Old Saybrook in Middlesex County.

SCG currently maintains an operations center and a customer information center in Orange, Connecticut; and an LNG storage facility in Milford, Connecticut.

SCG offers a wide range of clean-energy options for all customer classes. SCG has worked closely with key equipment manufacturers to help develop distributed generation, absorption heat pump, fuel cell, micro turbine and other innovative gas-fired heating and cooling technologies to help their business partners enhance efficiencies and reduce operating costs in an environmentally friendly manner. The company also works closely with the State of Connecticut to promote energy conservation and weatherization among its customer base.
