St George's Hospital was a hospital on Suttons Lane in Hornchurch in the London Borough of Havering, in northeast London, England.
History
The hospital opened as a home for the elderly known as Suttons Institution in 1938.[1] It was used as residential accommodation for airmen based RAF Hornchurch during the Second World War.[1] It joined the National Health Service as St George's Hospital in 1948.[1][2]
Legionella was founded in the hospital's water system in October 2012; the patients were transferred to other hospitals and St George's Hospital closed.[3] Plans are in place for a new health centre on site, with the remaining land being converted to housing.[4]
