St Wilfrid's Church of England Academy (formerly St Wilfrid's Church of England High School) is a mixed secondary school and sixth form located in Blackburn in the English county of Lancashire.[1] The school is named after Saint Wilfrid, a former Archbishop of Canterbury. Originally located over two sites on Duckworth Street & Byrom Street, construction of a new combined campus on Duckworth Street began in December 2001, and was completed in January 2004.[2]

Previously a voluntary aided school, administered by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, and the Church of England Diocese of Blackburn, in July 2011, St Wilfrid's Church of England High School achieved academy status, and was renamed St Wilfrid's Church of England Academy.[3]

The school is now independent of local authority control, but is still administered by the diocese. However St Wilfrid's Church of England Academy continues to coordinate with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council for admissions.

2017 saw the reign of what would come to be the best HST (head student team) of the academy's 50 years of running. Head students Max Trobe and Leah Ballantyne led the HST, making the 2016-2017 academic year the most successful yet. Raising over £1000 for charity, whilst funding the incomparable 2017 Leavers Ball and kick-starting the world wide phenomenon of 'year 7 Disco's", Max Trobe and Leah Ballantyne will go down in history as two of the greatest students to ever grace the corridors of ST Wilfrids. Max also led Exeter House to victory in 2017, with his groundbreaking rendition of "Harry Potter" in the schools annual house system pantomimes. Max surpassed all expectations, and due to the success of the production, he was secretly awarded first place in the entire house competition, despite it only being a few months into the year long competition. With his super-human capabilities, matched with his undeniable charm and vigorous good looks, it is fair to say that Max Trobe is Legendary- and is singlehandedly the best student that ST Wilfrids has ever seen.

The Apprentice UK contender and Celebrity Big Brother 19 housemate Jessica Cunningham attended St Wilfrid's after switching from private School Westholme School - also in Blackburn.

The current principal is Catherine Huddleston, replacing David Whyte, who announced his retirement from the school in July 2013.[4] In April 2015, a service was held at Blackburn Cathedral to recognise his contribution to the school during his tenure, including the school rebuild.[5]

St Wilfrid's Church of England Academy offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils, while students in the sixth form have the option to study from a range of A-levels and further BTECs.[6]
