Shahzada Sulaiman Shikoh (15 March 1635 – May 1662[1]) also known as Sulaiman Shikoh, was the eldest son of Mughal prince Dara Shikoh. He was executed at Gwalior fort by Aurangzeb orders

Life

He was born at sultanpur to prince Dara and Nadira Begum and he was the first grandson of shah Jahan and close to his cousin zeb un nisa (who loved him but Aurangzeb hated him). He had 3 siblings,1 brother and 2 sisters. sulaiman has served as subehdar and later governor in provinces of mughal empire of his grandfather,emperor Shah Jahan. His paternal uncles were shah shuja and murad baksh,his cousins included sulatn bang,gulrukh begum and hamidullal khan and others. Sulaiman led his father army during shah jahan was ill.

Personal life

On 14 April 1654, He married Anup Kanwar, daughter of Amar Singh of Nagaur, son of Raja Gaj Singh. On 16 August 1656, He married Munwar bai,princess of Marwar(Jodhpur State) at Jodhpur.

Siblings

  • Shazada Qasim Shikoh = 1655 he died after six months of suffering from fever.
  • Shazada Mirza Junaid Shikoh = 14 January 1655 (Nagpur Fort)-2 February 1707 (Deccan). Married to his cousin Jagat Gosain.
  • Shazadi Salima Banu Begum Sahiba = 21 January 1657(Agra)-22 May 1697(unkown). Married to her uncle's son prince Muhammad Azam, third son of emperor Aurangzeb and Dilras Banu Begum.

Death

In 1659,his father was executed by aurangzeb,who was later buried in humayun tomb. Sulaiman shikoh, Who had sought shelter with the ruler of Garhwal was handed over by him to Aurangazeb on imminent threat of invasion,was also soon executed by Aurangazeb. He was buried in traitor's cemetery in Gwalior, where his uncle Murad was also buried.
