Sunrise International Education
Sunrise International Education is a social enterprise[1] that focuses on experiential education and extracurricular learning based in China and in the United States. It was founded in 2011 by Gavin Newton-Tanzer and David Weeks.[2] Sunrise's activities consist of running competitions and conferences for students in East Asia, with a particular focus on debate, business simulation, Model United Nations, and drama. Its debate events are run in partnership with the National High School Debate League of China[3] and the Association for Global Debate, and Sunrise debate students often travel internationally to compete at debate competitions hosted at Stanford, Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Asia Society.[4][5][6] Its business simulation league is the China Youth Business League, run in partnership with the Wharton China Business Society.[7] Sunrise is the local co-organizer of the Yale Model United Nations China Conference, run in partnership with the Yale International Relations Association.[8][9][10] Sunrise's events often feature low student registration fees that are subsidized by sponsorship from private education organizations or American universities seeking to engage students from China.[11][12][13][14]
