Susan Band Horwitz
Appearance
Susan Band Horwitz is an American biochemist and professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She studies molecular pharmacology, focusing on the mechanisms by which anti-tumor drugs work and the mechanisms of drug resistance. Her award-winning work starting in the 1970s on paclitaxel revealed that the way it inhibited cell division was by binding to microtubules. As a result, this compound was developed into a common treatment for ovarian, breast and non-small cell lung cancers.
