On July 9th of 1999 the students of Tabriz University start to protest to support the students demand for more freedom. The protest was in continuation of the suppression two days earlier in Tehran University. The police forces blockade the students inside the university’s main campus fences preventing the protest s spread into the city. While the hardliner supporters of the state, Basij paramilitary guards, broke the fences and start beating students and destroying the University’s properties. They also attacked to the dormitories inside the campus beating and arresting any student they could catch. Later a group of this Basij attacked to the hospital and arrested the wounded students. Even though this protests has been suppressed with more brutality and an unknown number of the victims the event never covered in the media as much as the simultaneous events happening in Tehran University.[1] Even in the court that has been held for these events nobody has been recognized guilty. The university's president at the time Dr. Pourfeiz who was following the case has been mistreated by the accused people inside the court room without any reaction from the court. A government research on the events has been performed but the results never published and still remains confidentital.[2]
