i'm new to the wiki world so i have no idea how to do a proper job of adding info. according to the director's interview on the re-released warner dvd, this is the film which broke bogey out of tough guy character acting. it also has an amazing collection of famous or soon-to-be famous or at least familiar actors. 24.213.227.15 (talk) 22:26, 28 October 2010 (UTC)grumpy[reply]

Release date of 1941 vs. 1942[edit]

Different Internet sites give the release date of this film as either 1941 or 1942, but my research of contemporary trade papers indicates that 1942 is correct. Here's what I've found:

- The November 13, 1941 issue of Film Daily on page 2 says that the film would be tradeshown on December 2.(cite) I guess that solves the mystery of where the claim for a December 2, 1941 release date comes from, but advance screenings like a tradeshow exhibition are not the same as a premiere or a release date to the public.

- The November 17, 1941 issue of Film Daily on page 5 reports that the film has a release date scheduled for January 10.(cite)

- The film booking chart on page 16 of the December 10, 1941 issue of Variety lists the film in the "Tradeshown and for Future Release" section, indicating it's not out yet.(cite) The booking chart on p. 16 of the January 14, 1942 issue has it in the "Week of Release - 1/9/42" section.(cite)

- The copyright date in the opening credits is small, but it looks like MCMXLII to me.

Unless someone can produce any evidence from a newspaper or magazine of a premiere somewhere prior to January 10, 1942, I think this establishes the release date pretty solidly as 1942 and not 1941.Cbj77 (talk) 22:04, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just to note that the AFI Film Catalog entry [1] gives January 10, 1942 as the release date, and January 23, 1942 as the date of the premiere in NYC. It also gives the copyright date as October 1, 1942. BMK (talk) 03:14, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
