Lead

The lead is well written, but goes into a bit too much detail for such a short article. It should just be a summary of the article to come. Some points include:

  • It isn't necessary to detail the scores of all the semi-finals, I think it's enough to say who both teams defeated
  • The part about Mauge rising highest to head a first-time cross is also a bit too detailed for the lead. I think the "The winning goal was scored by Plymouth Argyle's Ronnie Mauge after 65 minutes. The central midfielder rose highest to head a first-time cross from Mark Patterson into the back of the net. Plymouth Argyle thus gained promotion back to the third tier of English football at the first time of asking." bit could be summarised to:
"Plymouth Argyle won the match 1–0 thanks to a headed goal from Ronnie Mauge to gain promotion back to the third tier of English football one season after being relegated." This is much more concise

I tend to do that, sorry. Not necessarily a bad thing to go into detail but I agree its a bit much for the lead. Corrected. Argyle 4 Life (talk) 08:07, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Route to the final
  • This section seems fine
Match summary
  • The capitalisation in the section heading is incorrect
  • Shouldn't be a space between the full stop and reference [9]
  • "less than 10,000" ---> "fewer than 10,000"
  • "The first real sight of goal" is a journalistic term and won't be familiar to people who don't follow English football. Suggest "the first real goalscoring opportunity"
  • Link to "one-two" and drop the word "neat"
  • The match report makes it sound as though Darlington had no chances during the entire match; is this accurate?

All done apart from another Darlington chance or two. They had one in the first half but I didn't include any others because they weren't mentioned. Its proving to be a bit difficult finding another match report online because of how long ago it was, but I'll keep looking. Argyle 4 Life (talk) 08:07, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Other
  • Add publication dates for the newspaper articles.
  • Also, the book needs author, year and publisher information

Done. Argyle 4 Life (talk) 08:07, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Overall, this is pretty well written although I think it does have a slight tendency to favour Plymouth in parts, especially the match summary section. Once these few tweaks have been addressed I will happily pass this as a GA. Cheers, -- BigDom 20:35, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate you doing this. I'll try and find a bit more information regarding goalscoring chances for article balance. Argyle 4 Life (talk) 08:07, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've managed to find a few more articles about the match which included a bit more detail on Darlington's two serious chances in the first half. The second half seemed alot more tense and there wasn't alot of opportunities to write home about. I also found a few more comments from both managers which I think are a nice addition to the post-match section. I await your response, cheers. Argyle 4 Life (talk) 10:23, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The article seems nice and balanced now and it is well sourced. The comments have been addressed so I see no problem passing this as a GA. Good work! -- BigDom 17:30, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
