Current Event Warning

[edit]

The Current Event Warning is useful, Details have just come out and other major event articles contain it too FloridaMan21 (talk) 19:47, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No, details have not "just come out"; this happened yesterday, where I added the content to the Al-Asad Airbase article and a new article was created on this attack, however that article was since correctly merged into Attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq, Jordan, and Syria during the Israel–Hamas war hours later. There's not enough content here to require a separate article, as this event is already covered sufficiently in the two mentioned areas. Flemmish Nietzsche (talk) 19:49, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Respectfully, the event is less than a day old. Many of the sources were created less than 10 hours ago. The content on the Al-Asad airbase article is short and events such as Jaffey farm airstrike have been documented. New information that 7 members have been injured has just come out too. I believe its part of an article series, however we can create an article discussion if needed. FloridaMan21 (talk) 19:57, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sources being only 10 hours still does not require a "current event" tag; this article, as you can see, is not being actively edited by anyone else and there isn't new information coming out since those sources were released. Yes, the content on the airbase article is short; that makes all the reason for you to expand that information. This seems very much like a routine strike (in that there is not enduring notability) that is covered by Attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq, Jordan, and Syria during the Israel–Hamas war; just because an event is covered in some news articles and had a few casualties does not necessarily mean it deserves a separate article. That farm airstrike is also different as there were ~28 casualties rather than just 7, and there is no clear higher up article where that event could be covered in-depth. Many of the airstrikes reported on in the Attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq, Jordan, and Syria during the Israel–Hamas war article had similar casualty rates as this attack, so just because this attack happened within the past day does not make it any more special or deserving of an article. https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_2024_al-Asad_Airbase_attack Has its own article on a similar event. FloridaMan21 (talk) 18:54, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see that; what's your point? There's also no attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq, Jordan, and Syria during the Israel–Hamas war article on Simple English Wikipedia, and the page for the exact same event on English Wikipedia is a redirect to that higher up, more appropriate article. As I've said before, this event is not any more noteworthy than other attacks mentioned there, nor it is as noteworthy as the other one separate article on an attack we have, Tower 22 drone attack. Flemmish Nietzsche (talk) 02:33, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There have been multiple attacks that have taken place at the Al-Asad airbase during the duration of the Israel-Hamas war. At this point, It would be wiser to make this an article similar to Kyiv Strikes (2022-present) or create a bigger section like the Intervention against ISIL heading with an infobox in the airbase's article. The attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq, Jordan, and Syria during the Israel–Hamas war article is a good higher up and I agree with a lot of your points. This article can be converted and redirected too. FloridaMan21 (talk) 03:59, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
