This asteroid named after Korawich Niyomsatian (กรวิทย์ นิยมเสถียร), Thai winner of the 2007 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) and European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) Award recipient. niyom (นิยม) means "like" or "admire" and satian (เสถียร) means [ADV] stably (See also: firmly; strongly)".
