WW2 Order of Battle

[edit]

Article implied that division had same oob throughout the war. This was not the case for this division (nor, probably, the case for any british division during WW2). Any oob should be quoted either as at a particular date or for the relevant range of dates.

According to ordersofbattle.com, the oob listed prior to my edit existed at no point during the war - for example 67 Field Regt RA was replaced by 24 Field Regt RA on 31 Jan 1940, while 2 Bn. Warwicks wasn't part of the division until 5 Feb 1940; and two of the infantry Bns shown were actually equipped with searchlights and serving in AA Command (4 Glosters -> 66 SL; 5 Warwicks -> 45 SL - and, later, provided men to form 59 SL).

I am reluctant to use ordersofbattle.com without a backup (it does mention 48 Recce Regt, whereas many other sources categorically state 48 Bn. Recce Corps, which became 43 Bn then 43 Regt). However, I do have 3 other sources (they might not be independent of each other) that provide the oob as at 3 Sep 1939, which seems a good date to use given the division's lack of involvement in major battles (other than the brief BEF campaign that ended with the Dunkirk evacuation).

When time permits, I will be happy to add in the changes to the OOB, unless, that is, someone beats me to it!Glevum (talk) 14:36, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
