Allied Suppliers - Proposed changes[edit]

Background to Allied Suppliers Ltd [1][edit]

Allied Suppliers was the result of an amalgamation of several national retail companies and many more regional/local food retailers/suppliers.

Home and Colonial Stores (est 1885) was re-named Allied Suppliers Ltd in 1959 upon the amalgamation of all the other subsidiary companies - including Maypole Dairy (1819), Liptons (supermarket)(1871), Pearks Dairies (1860), Templetons (1880) and Galbraiths (1894). Currently Home and Colonial Stores, Liptons (supermarket), Presto (supermarket) and Argyll Foods contain some information relevant to Allied Suppliers.

Proposed changes to Allied Suppliers page[edit]

  1. To create a list of all the companies within Allied Suppliers, pointing to all the current links available (and removing the re-direct to Home and Colonial Stores).
  2. Start building the Allied Suppliers page as the main reference point.

Reasons for proposed changes[edit]

  1. The subject field is wider than the current pages represent and several companies currently have no representation at all.
  2. Each "major" company was the result of amalgamations/mergers/takeovers and there are usually companies below these.
  3. This is an important subject field in local/regional and national retailing (as one of the early national retailers).
  4. Some of the current subject pages could not be easily expanded without "information overload".
