Anguirus is the official name recognized by Toho as evidenced in the International Dub that they put forth for Godzilla Final Wars that has 'Angilas' being mentioned as Anguirus. Unless proof can be found to the contrary that's how it is. Now Angilas might be the American Name(barely arguable), but every other page refers to Anguirus as Anguirus and so did the Official Godzilla Compendium. It can't just be changed on a whim.

Also, Anguirus's official seal has it being trademarked to Toho Co. Ltd. but that trademark recently expired along with a few others. I don't know if this just for the toys or what. http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&entry=75123553 I'm still looking for another patent but that looks like it. Angilas yields nothing though.

Oh this just keeps getting better http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&entry=75348437. Guess Anguirus forever gone from us.

Angilas is the creature's original name. While 'Anguirus' is used by Toho's international dept, the monster's name is 'Angilas' in the original Japanese. That's what he was called in hiss first appearance in GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN, plus DAM, GIGAN, and FINAL WARS, and that's the name used by Toho filmmakers like Shogo Tomiyama, Shusuke Kaneko, Ryuhei Kitamura, and Shinichi Wakasa.

Toho's international dept royally screwed up when they tried to make "official" standardized English names for the monsters. The idea was sound (consistency for films and licensing) but the people in charge didn't bother to check if there were already pre-existing names and spellings for some of the monsters. Instead of clarifying things they created more confusion because the movies, filmmakers, and older Toho materials say one thing while licensing says another (and also adds the letter 'u' to several names). It's particularly annoying when they screw up names like Angilas (used by Toho since 1955) and Mogera, which is spelled clearly and repeatedly in SPACE GODZILLA and should have been hard to get wrong.

What is actually *in the movie* and what is said by the people who *made* the movie takes prelavence over anything said in any tie-in books, games or mechandise.

That may be but it's still factually incorrect to call him Angilas over Anguirus in terms of legalities. Toho may resolve the issue in the future but if it's spelled MOGUERA over MOGERA on this Wiki then it should be ANGUIRUS over ANGILAS until Toho finally changes it's mind. I mean we use Godzilla over Gojira here on this Wiki after all. I guess we should just write a letter to Toho and ask for a final verdict.

So Koobine, what's it going to be? Are you going to go and change Moguera to Mogera? Because if not this page should be reverted to Anguirus, especially since every other page says Anguirus and the two pages that's linked to at the bottom say Anguirus. I propose that the Godzilla Raids Again DVD that's being released in the next few months will provide the definitive answer? If it says Angilas then it'll be Angilas but if it's Anguirus that's referred to by the DVD then it should be Anguirus on this page. At least that's how I see it.
