Fictional band?

[edit]

It's not really a fictional band, is it? I mean, that's not stated on the band's page... The puppets aren't actually playing the instruments but if you go look at the Monkee's page, they're not listed as a "fictional" band.72.184.233.201 (talk) 01:45, 10 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Designer?

[edit]

The page says that Animal was designed by Michael K. Frith, but the page for Electric Mayhem says he was designed by Jim Henson. The Muppets wiki also credits Henson as the designer. Which is it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.35.213.86 (talk) 15:38, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Other media

[edit]

I'm tempted to add that Animal is the mascot of my hometown volunteer fire company (Palmyra PA) but I realize that isn't necessarily notable. A nice tribute, though. PurpleChez (talk) 20:52, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please resist the temptation. Such an addition would get quickly removed. ~Anachronist (talk) 03:33, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Don't sweat it. Another temptation that I've struggled with -- but succeeded against -- especially when starting an article from scratch, is to create an "in popular culture" section that tells the reader that this particular item has never been referenced on The Simpsons, South Park, or Family Guy. Even with things (like the Simpsons) that I love I can't abide fancruft, even though ego sometimes tempts me to add to it. Thanks for the response. PurpleChez (talk) 14:42, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How do we know that Animal is male?

[edit]

The article infers that Animal is male, but how do we know? The Official webpage for Animal ( https://muppets.disney.com/Animal ) does not refer to Animal's gender at all. Is it simply an assumption that Animal is male? 1dragon (talk) 23:55, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Aside from the fact that Animal has had males performing him, without trying to affect a female voice, since the character was created? And that the band's members also refers to Animal as "he"? And here's a video of Kermit saying "who we affectionately refer to as 'Animal' - that's his name, actually" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc94fGU3_AQ
It doesn't matter who voices him (eg Bart Simpson) or whether someone thinks it's "obvious", but that video with Kermit makes it clear, that's HIS name. Thanks! 1dragon (talk) 11:30, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's obvious enough that Animal is male. ~Anachronist (talk) 00:33, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think that Animal is male. It’s clear enough. Globbett (talk) 14:45, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

He's consistently referred to in the franchise in the masculine. You might as well ask how do we know Kermit or Gonzo are male? Chaheel Riens (talk) 15:24, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
