Authenticator is the new token

Recently I've written a couple of short articles (FIDO2 Project, Client to Authenticator Protocol) that rely heavily on the notion of an authenticator as defined by NIST.[1] Unfortunately, current coverage of this topic is rather vague and out-of-date, and so I'm inclined to rewrite the article from scratch.
