Gender of the participants

There was an edit to change the main defining sentence from:

"An avunculocal society is one in which a married couple traditionally lives with the man's mother's eldest brother"

to

"An avunculocal society is one in which a married couple traditionally lives with the female's mother's eldest brother"

This is incorrect as confirmed by the following references:

Explanation
