As a copy-editor, I stumbled upon this page but it has lots of deeper issues that I can't fix. There are contradictory statements and nonsense that would require someone to go to the original Portuguese sources to fix, it has no inline citations, and still reads like a city tourism office information brochure. I took a bit of a crack at it but it's a bit of a mess. Jim below me may or may not be around to do this.Anon423 (talk) 06:06, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite

[edit]

This article is written like a travel guide and I am going to do a complete and phased rewrite of it. There are two articles on the Portuguese Wikipedia about the neighbourhood:

[1] [2]

Somebody at the Portuguese Wikipedia may need to merge those two articles. There is already some material translated from these corresponding articles and the purpose of this rewrite is to make the article more encyclopedic.Jim856796 (talk) 14:16, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, one article is about the neighborhood and the other about the region. They probably should be merged. --Carioca (talk) 19:29, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The two articles are different, although with the same name. Like in Rio de Janeiro state and city, that has the same name but describe two different subjects, the two Barra da Tijuca articles describe different topics, one is about the administrative region that includes the neighborhood of Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Barra da Tijuca, Vargem Grande, Vargem pequena, etc; and the other is just about the neighborhood of Barra da Tijuca. In my opinion the other article, about the region must be created here in the English Wikipedia. I am at your dispose to help with any information and/or translations needed to correct this page and to create the other one. As a fairly new Wikipedia editor (I read it for many years), I am not confident enough to create a hole new article or to rewrite this one. --User:Fbauler 15:09, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of favelas?

[edit]

No, no, no... I work there. May be they're not as big, famous, or dangerous like many others in Rio, but they're there. Google Maps tends to exaggerate their proeminence, but it does not lie, a mere look over there and you can find a lot of them. Maybe you could say that about Barra da Tijuca per se, but the article is about the whole administrative region - and as Barra does have its "Miamis", it does also has its "Bronxs". 187.15.196.138 (talk) 03:43, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
