Re-redirect, maybe?

[edit]

I note that this directs to Beja language. I'm not sure that this is the best destination. Lots of sources use the term 'Bedawi' for Bedouin varieties of Arabic (eg, Glottolog, the Joshua Project), but this term isn't actually used in scholarship for the Beja language. In Beja, the name of the language is Bidhaawyeet /biɖaːwyeːt/ or Tubdhaawi /tubɖaːwi/. The similarity is obvious, but I don't know how a person would come to look for the Beja language from 'Bedawi'. Of the grammars of Beja since 1864:

  • Werner Munzinger used To'beḍauie
  • Herman Almkvist used Tū-Beḍāwie
  • Leo Reinisch used Beḍauye
  • EM Roper used Tu Beḍawiɛ
  • Richard Hudson used Beja
  • Klaus & Charlotte Wedekind used Beja
  • Martine Vanhove uses Beja in English and Bedja in French

Anyone object to my changing the direction of this redirect? Pathawi (talk) 21:26, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
