Wikipedia critiques

[edit]

I agree that as the front of this article suggested that more citation needs to be added. I will add more citations for the first paragraph, also on the paragraphs introducing labeling method and purification. Also, more suggestions as follows:Susanzy90 (talk) 22:02, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

1. More information needs to put in the "Purification" section

This article focuses on the part titled "Labeling methods" which is the chemistry reaction of biotinylation with different chemical groups. However,I feel more information needed for the "Purification"section because many people would be interested in the application of biotinylation in their research or in general.Susanzy90 (talk) 04:25, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Specifically, as biotinylation has been widely used in biochemistry, protemomics, and drug development, I would like to refer to more articles for readers to know the applications.Susanzy90 (talk) 04:25, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2. A "Method" can be included. This section will give a clue of how to use this technique and put more research articles or protocols which are legal and available online for readers to track. As the end of the article explains how to examine the extent of biotinylation which is the final experiment of biotinylation assay. I would like to give a brief introduction for different steps on the current trend for people to perform biotinylation for protein purification.Susanzy90 (talk) 04:25, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

3. The introduction paragraph needs to be more specific

The introduction paragraph mostly introduces the benefits of using biotinylation for protein purification. However, it would be nice to give a brief introduction of what is biotin and how biotinylation works, or put a link to guide readers to the "biotin" page.Susanzy90 (talk) 04:11, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

4. A reference mistake

The article refered in the second reference was published in 1999 not 2008.Susanzy90 (talk) 04:25, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

5. In vivo biotinylation needs to be included in the article

During the "enzymatic reaction" of biotinylation, only in vitro using BirA(ligase) was mentioned. However, in vivo biotinylation for protein purificationin study was developed back in 1999 and widely used for protein purification today.Susanzy90 (talk) 05:18, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
