Rejected building proposal[edit]

There is a content dispute with User:Mrn5768 regarding addition of the following:

...the school district plans to build a new high school or renovate the old building sometime in the future.[1]

Due to the disrepair and aging of the high school building, and failing to meet modern state standards, the school district created a plan to teardown the existing high school and replace it with a new building. The district also proposed to renovate the current elementary school building.[2] In total, the projects were expected to cost $89 million dollars. On November 7, 2023, the towns of Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor rejected both the elementary school and high school proposals.[3][4] The high costs for both projects would greatly increase local taxes, which made the plans unpopular to voters in their current form. The school district plans to modify the plans to reduce costs, and continue with referendums until a solution is passed.[5]

Adding so much content--about a plan never brought to fruition--is unnecessary and unencylopedic. Moreover, the edit is a WP:COAT, because it's about a town council decision affecting the school board (and another school), with little relevance to the school.

Mrn5768, as a compromise, would you agree to remove the content from the lead, and trim the content in the body to the following:

  • "Due to the disrepair and aging of the high school building, a plan to replace the building with a new structure has been proposed." --Magnolia677 (talk) 21:20, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
