Issues with current version

Somebody removed several sentences from the beginning of the article, and now it looks very odd. I think it needs to be reverted, but I'm not really sure what the intent was. Maybe someone else knows what should be going on here... JByrd 13:02, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Airtime as a concept of mobile phone billing?

Airtime redirects here. But isn't "airtime" also a concept used to determine the size of your bill in the US-cell-phone market? Shouldn't there be a disambiguation page? Or am I totally mistaken?

Although, generally speaking, in Europe you only pay for outgoing calls (this isnt always true) "air-time" is also used by mobile phone operators in Europe. AFAICT, this is particularly true on "Pay-As-You-Go" contracts where a user pays in advance. In common usage I would have thought the use for mobile phones was the more common use of the term "air-time". However, is this more a defintion that belongs in a dictionary? Other meanings

I came here in search for broadcast address for MAC Ethernet layer, and found it very frustrating that this article monopolizes the term “broadcast” for TV/radio shows solely. Narrowcasting

which is irrelevant to the accompanying article, and is confusing bcz it uses "narrow" in an irrelevant (interest) sense that is not the opposite of the (geographic) sense of "broad" that is involved here.

The work "Broadcast" or "Broadcasting" has origins that are hundreds of years old. Farmers used to broadcast their seeds. The term broadcasting is actually centuries old. It originally referred to a planting method in which a farmer scatters, or broadcasts, seeds over a wide area of prepared land. During the earliest days of commercial radio, several engineers in the Midwestern United States decided that the concept of broadcasting fit their own concept of radio transmissions. In the same way that farmers broadcast seeds over a large field, radio transmitters broadcast their signals over a large area of reception. This is especially true with amplified modulation (AM) radio waves, which are sent out through the open air in all directions from the transmitting tower.
