Lewis Burwell III
[edit]I've made a tweak to that section - it looks like Lewis Burwell III did not marry Frances Thacker, he married Elizabeth Armistead. I also noted that the bio I have did not list a date of birth for him, so I've removed this. It also wasn't backed up in any of the sources. This wouldn't be as huge of an issue except that this family has a lot of Lewis Burwells and it's entirely possible that this could have been the DOB for one of the others. As far as Frances Thacker goes, there's some conflicting information that doesn't entirely give 100% certainty. There's this book, which says that she married a Lewis Burwell, but not which one. This entry gives a Burwell with a year, but it's not Burwell III. It looks like it refers to Lewis Burwell II/II, but the LVA's bio doesn't say that he married a Frances Thacker and instead gives another woman's name. They're pretty good about this, so I'm more inclined to believe that it's yet another Lewis Burwell that married Thacker, especially as the bio for Nathaniel Burwell (the supposed child of Lewis Burwell and Frances Thacker) gives a different mother. Long story short, I'm removing this since I can't find exactly where she relates to the family and some of the older record books aren't infallible when it comes to families with complicated histories, and since the LVA's historians don't mention it, I'm going to guess that it doesn't pertain to the persons mentioned in the article. (Meaning it's likely another Lewis Burwell that isn't notable enough to warrant a mention.) Tokyogirl79LVA (talk) 13:28, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
more work needed
[edit]First, the Fairfield Plantation section needs to be a separate article. I'm not doing that because my sandbox is full until I can get to the Library of Virginia. Plus, there's an entire book about the house, which would be useful for refs, if I had the time and library access.
The article would be more useful if it could disambiguate/distinguish among the various Lewis Burwells, which is a huge job. I spent an hour yesterday during limited Covid access trying to sort the five Nathaniel Burwells, and still couldn't distinguish which generation was the last to serve in the Virginia House of Delegates (son or grandson of the most distinguished). What I found most interesting was that the index to the VGA book through 1978 had no Burwell legislators after the Civil War (or even a decade previously); I did not have the time to check one book's statement that the family were Clark County's largest slaveholders in that prewar decade.Jweaver28 (talk) 13:37, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- I've cleaned this up more in the past two days, despite cyberharassment (scammer phone calls and txts after edits Monday, yesterday and this morning, as well as supposed lenovo updates installing despite my repeated declinations yesterday and the entire screen freezing this morning shortly after my first published edit, prompting a reboot; plus both android and iphones giving odd routes and locking on their respective account screens prompting reboots). Of course, more work is needed here, probably meaning up to 20 articles for the various Burwells who served in the House of Delegates, in addition to the Fairfield Plantation article being pulled out of this. I write here because I don't know when or if I'll resume.Jweaver28 (talk) 16:46, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
