Furniture spammers, take notice

Wikipedia should not be considered a resource for shoppers, nor for sellers, no matter what the topic. Instead, it is an encyclopedia of knowledge about subjects, not a guide on where to shop for them or a catalogue of what's for sale. Commercial spammers who parasitically link to Wikipedia entries are doing so only for commercial gain. Others might feel that their commercial links are doing readers a favor, and in some cases that might be true. But (1) a shoppers' guide to furniture, or (2) a manufacturer's online catalogue page, or (3) innocent-looking photos cleverly linked to manufacturers' websites are all only business-oriented marketing material and cannot in any way be considered encyclopedic knowledge. Please stop inserting all such commercially oriented links in Wikipedia. Jack Bethune 10:29, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I have started two different topics in the wiki discussion/help area about this. Everyone agreed the links are useful and are NOT spam. And the cabinets in those pictures are not for sale as you stated. They are pictures of cabinets I have finished. The cabinets are owned by people, in their homes. They are in no way for sale, if you had actually looked at the page maybe you would have figured that out.

I was encouraged by wiki users to create MORE pages like the one I have created here. I specifically started the thread when I first joined here to see what everyone thought. Everyone agreed that they are find and in no way spam or junk links. Also, you deleted the PDF link I added about how to make a raised panel door calling it spam too. Now how in the world is a tutorial on building a raised panel door spam? I work hard creating these things then have people calling it "spam" is not a good feeling. --Naples 17:51, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Naples, your page appears to be nothing more than a portfolio of jobs your firm has been connected with, which is commercial promotion at its most obvious. In addition, your cabinet firm owns the photos, and the name of your company is clearly identified in the ownership statement next to the photos. Furthermore, the Google and other links you provide are absolutely commercial spamlinks that connect with cabinetmakers' webpages, and therefore pure commercial promotion. Since your firm boasts online that its primary promotional strategy is to spread your name in as many directions as possible, hoping for commercial rewards in return, your efforts here on Wikipedia are not only apparent but against WP policy. Easy, Jack. I think you're being a bit too harsh on the user here; let's assume good faith and not bite the newbies too hard. I didn't dig too far into the company's website when I looked at that link, so perhaps you've hit on something for the promotional aspect of it. I'd be curious to know if other similar galleries are being used for other pages, however, as that one looks innocuous enough at a casual glance. Tony Fox (arf!) 23:48, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes. I see this as being appropriate to annex to the 'Cabinet (furniture)' article, since the term 'casework' can be disambiguated to mean 'social work' or even go to mean that the U.S. Congress is assisting its constituents who have a grievance dealing with a federal agency or government . Why is it a stub?
