PhD in Norway
[edit]To get a PhD degree you must do 2.5 year research and 0.5 year theory in addition to previous degree. It is not uncommon to combine a cand.sci. degree with a Swedish PhD degree, as I remember at Göteborg University, that way you could get a PhD with just 1.5 year of additional study. Cand.scient. vs cand.real vs siving vs MSc in Norway
[edit]The three degrees cand.scient., cand.real, siving, and MSc is roughly equivalent in Norway. There are some slight formal differences, but nothing really important. Siving and MSc is slightly shorter, while cand.real. is slightly longer, and cand.scient. is in between. Siving often was a bit to much focused on constructing something, and MSc has a very short research term. Most sivings come from NTNU, but also other universities had the degree.
I am a cand.sci., but was asked whether I rather had a siving degree as I then could get away with a shorter research term. Jeblad (talk) 13:37, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
