Development of article[edit]

This article seems really important to questions of both maps and African history and is surprisingly underdeveloped to me. ThomasMannFan (talk) 23:52, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Under "The Scramble" heading, this article could really benefit from the inclusion of more pictures of different maps that show how the image of Africa from European eyes (particularly before, during, and after colonialism) changed throughout time, how land was acquired/colonies created, etc. There are also many historical maps that have accompanying drawings that are very telling of the colonial encounter and how the people who made these maps intended to interact with the natives of the regions they entered.

Cantino planisphere[edit]

Unbelievable. The Portuguese were the first people in History to cartograph the whole of Africa and no mention is made of them. Yet another example of historical plagiarism. Check the Cantino planisphere; the first map in History made by the Portuguese from1502 that showed the true size of Africa.2.80.179.59 (talk) 22:14, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
