Justification

[edit]

Is this page justified, given that it is not usually our policy to have dedicated pages for expired genus synonyms? Admittedly, this may be an exceptional case, because it refers to so many different taxa, but that is quite a common occurrence in some taxonomic fields. @Jts1882: thoughts? All of the species to which this page refers already seem to have updated taxonomy. --Dr Mark D. Scherz 20:01, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Mark.scherz: Personally I think pages on defunct taxa are useful. Unfortunately some people prefer to delete them. I wouldn't advocate creating such pages, but where they exist and are clearly written, I think they should be kept. As you point out, this example isn't just a case of synonymisation, as the species have been transferred to several other genera in addition to the synonymised one. The page is clear about what has happened and the list of species are redirected to the articles undeer the current names. I fixed a couple of the species articles where the page was moved without changing the text.   Jts1882 | talk  07:43, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
