False Statement/Information

Historians now discount this expedition as nothing more than a pilgrimage to the Ganges and no permanent gain of territories resulted from it.

This sentence delivers incorrect information.The historian who propose this idea also knew what they are telling is nonsense.The purpose of these people were to hide the success of Tamils on the land of Bengal.Pala is a strong dynasty/empire at medieval time and Chola armies had successfully defeated them.This incident is one of the prove which indicates the superior power of Chola in the subcontinent at medieval time(9th-11th century) and to falsify this truth the idea of pilgrimage was created.Eventhough the Cholas respect vedic Hinduism,also some of the Chola emperors have carried out some serious vedic rituals,the Cholas were actually followers of classical Hinduism.Those people follows Shaivism based on Tamil Saiva Canon,so there are no possibilities to assume the Cholas were in Bengal/Northern countries for religious purpose as these people were not the follower of vedic Hinduism(only vedic hindus believe that Varanasi in ancient Bengal territories were the holiest place in the world)

Other than that,9th-11th century is a period where great Saiva saints,poet and writer such as Nakkirar,Sekkilar lived in Tamillakam.Does the holy site in Bengal can deliver a religious satisfaction/support than these great Saiva saints and writer to the Chola emperor?Besides that in term of pilgrimage,they were also places like Kanchipuram,Chidambaram,Rameswaram and etc in the ancient Tamil country which were consired holy by both vedic and non-vedic Hindus.Besides that,the Palas were Buddhist.In pre or post Pala period Varanasi may believed to be the holiest place in Hinduism but in the time of Palas ruling Bengal,Buddhist law rules and this may have faded the popularity of Varanasi as a Hindu pilgrimage site and how can some people assume that the Cholas were attracted in these most propably unpopular holy site in the time of Pala reign.

Besides that,ultimately the conquest of Bengal is clearly stated in Rajendra 1's inscription which clearly indicates the war affair between Palas an Cholas and the results of the war results in the Chola conquest of Pala territories.So,please remove the sentence which tries to hide the truth about the invasion of Cholas in the north/indo-Aryan countries.--Tan Meifen (talk) 13:12, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
