What does it mean that he was credited "...with downing 16.25 German aircraft..."? I read this as meaning he was credited with downing $16+{\frac {1}{4}}$ aircraft, which seems a bit confusing. Perhaps this should be clarified? --PeruvianLlama^(spit) 00:42, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

The USAAC was one of the few--maybe only--air force to give partial credit for air-to-air victories. (I believe it was the only air force to credit air-to-ground destruction of aircraft, also.) For a pilot to receive .25 credit almost certainly meant he was one of four pilots to participate in a kill. Gun camera footage evidently confirmed he scored hits on the target aircraft which contributed to its destruction. However, gun camera footage was evidently inconclusive as to which pilot was most responsible for the kill.--Cas4j
