Why 'large orchestra'?

The instrumentation listed in this article is quite standard and 'medium' sized. The only auxiliary instrument is the english horn. So to say 'large orchestra' implies that the score explicitly calls for a large number of string players. I haven't seen the score, but I find it highly doubtful this is the case.
