I just stumbled upon this article while rebuilding my drives. Anyways, Core Storage is much more powerful then the notes to the article suggest. Appel simply choose to withhold large parts of the man page. Multiple logical volumes can be used. Growing and shrinking is possible as is adding more physical volumes. As the article states they don't need to be physical but can also be Apple Soft RAID devices. Which does allow to use Filevault encryption on RAID volumes. Which gets me to the main point of writing this talk piece. The Article completely fails to mention what is probably the main reason for core storage, it is necessary for encrypting volumes using filevault 2. Which is the default suggestion by the installer on mobile computers since the introduction of filevault 2. I feel that this is somewhat necessary information because else there would not be too much sense in shipping a LVM as standard on single drive devices. 87.134.125.206 (talk) 22:03, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
