This article should be called "trench." What is the basis for choosing "dado" over "trench" or "housing?"

Trench (‘Europe’)
[edit]Curious as to what’s meant here. This is an English word, so does this mean another word using the UK, and also Ireland and small English-speaking territories, where ‘housing’ is just in the UK alone?
