there are big arguments weather to build the dam or not. The Lao government wants to build the dam because it will boost thier economy. The government has not looked at the implications the environmental implications are huge the dam wont do any good for the environment. There will be alot of deforestation going on and around 450 square km's will be flooded, which then means that alot of people will have to be compensated for.

What about increased flooding and food insecurity?

[edit]

How does the negative ecological impact of building a dam hold up against the possible benefits of building a dam to exert flood control in areas that are most suitable for agriculture in Laos? The areas most prone to flooding are also a major source of food security in Laos. I'm all for thinking about the environment, but it seems like a way to stimulate a vulnerable economy that could potentially save lives. Could we not simply address the ecological impact in the plans for the dam? FunkyThang (talk) 23:12, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
