LGBT?

The WikiProject LGBT studies banner has been added, but the article's prose doesn't mention anything LGBT-related, unless I'm overlooking something. @Innisfree987: Might you be able to help clarify? ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:00, 15 June 2017 (UTC)

Lambda Literary Award for Gay Poetry should qualify, no? Innisfree987 (talk) 18:04, 15 June 2017 (UTC)
Johnsoniensis, I see you've removed the banner; is this award insufficient? If yes, if you could please let me know what would need to be included in an entry to make it relevant to this project? Thanks. Innisfree987 (talk) 19:36, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
I could not see anything about LGBT in the article, nor whether Smith is male or female. The article needs a citation of a reliable source for this person being LGBT before using the banner on the Talk page.--Johnsoniensis (talk) 19:41, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
I really can't agree that someone whose work won an award for "gay poetry" isn't relevant to the LGBT Studies WikiProject, even if they explicitly identified as straight. The project is LGBT studies, not LGBT people. Innisfree987 (talk) 19:54, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
Please see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons; the present article is in need of improvement.--Johnsoniensis (talk) 20:08, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
I agree the article needs improvement; however I do not know what you're referring to in BLP policy that explains why this isn't relevant to the LGBT Studies WikiProject. Could you please clarify? Innisfree987 (talk) 20:12, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
The article does not show him as LGBT nor whether he is a man. "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be supported by an inline citation to a reliable, published source." All there is so far is your interpretation of one of the facts in the article.--Johnsoniensis (talk) 09:32, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
Johnsoniensis please take care: you are the one who is making unverified guesses about gender and orientation, and may have misgendered the subject.
I'm going to go ahead and add a source indicating Smith identifies as queer.[1] However, I'd request you not remove any more LGBT Studies banners on individuals known for work related to LGBT topics (as reliable sources in the entry verify Smith is), regardless of the individual's orientation. Their professional work's relevance to the LGBT Studies WikiProject is why David Boies and Theodore Olson have the LGBT Studies WikiProject banner, or likewise academics or journalists (1, 2, 3, etc.) who work on LGBT topics but whose personal lives are not part of the public record. Thank you. Innisfree987 (talk) 16:19, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

Danez Smith: -The title does relate to the article topic because the article is discussing Danez's life and his accomplishments. The title is simply his name so the article is about him so they relate. -The first sentence seems to be a run-on sentence but it could be okay considering it is a series of the same accomplishments as well. -I do not see things that need improved but that first paragraph. -The tone is set high because this poet is gay and the author makes several claims and even using "queer" to describe the poet which can be demeaning to some LGBT community members. Most do not like this term to be used to describe their sexuality. -http://www.nationalbook.org/nba2017-poet-smith-dont-call-us-dead.html, this link does not work. -Alot of people are commenting on the fact that the author mentioned he was gay often but there is no proof or resources stating he is gay. LGBT community was mentioned as well. The award for Gay Poetry was also questioned. -He was rated C class. -Question: Is this author being heavily biased towards the fact that Danez Smith has chose a different sexuality throughout his writing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ladyjane183 (talkcontribs) 17:06, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
