  • "The name Darnestown comes from William Darne, who owned the most land in the area at the beginning of the 19th century when the community Post office opened" - I don't think Post office should be capitalized, as I'm not sure that it's a proper noun
  • "About half way between the canal and Darnestown, General Nathaniel P. Banks kept his headquarters at the Samuel Thomas Macgruder farm where the Potomac River could be observed from high ground" - Recommend using Banks's official rank (it would have either been Brig. Gen or Maj. Gen, I don't remember off the top of my head for this early in the war), as General is sometimes used as a specific title (including in the CS Army during that time)
  • "The Darnestown MCD did not exceed its 1890 population until after 1940," - It's going to be a bit confusing to readers who didn't go through the lead thoroughly so see MCD pop up here, as Darnestown being considered a MCD by 1878 isn't actually mentioned until a couple sections later
    • The problem was the result of moving the History section to the front. Changed sentence to read "The region around the Darnestown village did not exceed its 1890 population until after 1940, and the nearby villages of Hunting Hill, Travilah, and Seneca became essentially ghost towns." TwoScars (talk) 16:50, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Further south, Riley's Lock and Violette's Lock are located along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (a.k.a. C&O Canal), and are now part of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park" - Isn't the Pennyfield lock part of the NHP, too?
    • It is outside of the Darnestown CDP, although Pennifield is buried in Darnestown. Added "The Pennyfield Lock, also part of the park, is located less than three miles (4.8 km) east of Violette's Lock—outside of the Darnestown census-designated place and within the Travilah census-designated place." Open to any suggestions about better wording and/or capitalization of census-designated place. TwoScars (talk) 16:50, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Was the house where Banks had his HQ that of the Magruders of the Macgruders? Both are used
  • I wonder if some of the content in the Seneca section should be moved to the separate Seneca article, since Seneca seems to have been a separate (albeit related) community?
    • Can do. Will get rid of the Seneca section, and replace it with two or three sentences about Seneca. Most of the Seneca section will be moved to the Seneca page in a small history section. TwoScars (talk) 16:54, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Seneca section now gone, and replaced with "The community of Seneca exists on the edge of the Darnestown census-designated place, on Seneca Creek close to Riley's Lock and the Potomac River. With the demise of the C&O Canal, Seneca lost its relevance. Today, a few homes, a schoolhouse, a store, ruins of two mills, and ruins of a quarry are all that remain." Original section is saved in a sandbox where it can be used to improve the Seneca, Maryland page. TwoScars (talk) 17:36, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ready for the demographics section. I've got to travel for work in the morning, so I'd better stop here and then pick this back up tomorrow. Hog Farm Talk 04:00, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • " Three Montgomery College campuses and online classes serve about 54,000 students offering associate degrees and courses that will transfer to other institutions" - recommend removing, since this isn't directly related to the topic of Darnestown
  • "While the Rockville Memorial Library celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2001; Quince Orchard Library was only a year old at that time" - I think it should be a comma, not a semicolon
  • "The Darnestown CDP has six county parks and an undeveloped conservation area" - source doesn't seem to directly support the existence of the other 6
    • Changed to "The Darnestown CDP has six county parks and an undeveloped conservation area. The Berryville Road Neighborhood Conservation Area is 3.83 acres of undeveloped woodland located between Seneca Road and Seneca Creek." The first sentence is simply a summary of the paragraph and is not footnoted—it can be dropped if necessary. The second sentence is footnoted. TwoScars (talk) 14:50, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sources and image licensing look okay

Good work, placing on hold. Hog Farm Talk 01:31, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
