Thanks for querying that appointment to the Admiralty before WW1 -- he was actually Private Secretary to the First Lord of the Admiralty when Winston Churchill held that post. It just goes to show that you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet -- that duff snippet seems to have come from a BBC website! That site also says he was born in Cheshire, while another one claims he was Scottish, but nearly all the other sites I've read say he was Irish, from a family in County Wexford. -- Arwel 23:53, 2 Nov 2003 (UTC)
