Contesting PROD, proposing merge instead

[edit]

This has no business existing as a separate article as it currently stands, especially considering that its creator, Vlraymond (talk · contribs), has such a blatant COI. However, since this appears to be a unique enough part of the university's research mission, it should instead be merged to another article covering a broader related topic within UAF, of which there are many. Near as I can tell, this specific entity falls under the Geophysical Institute, whose article has long been lacking relative to its importance and is nothing more than a linkfarm in its current state, so adding this content wouldn't exactly hurt. Response

[edit]

ASU has a wikipedia page for its Decision Theater: Decision Theater. Vlraymond (talk) 20:51, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vanessa: Let me run through how this works. First of all, you didn't disclose your conflict of interest. As it concerns this article, I couldn't help but notice that it contained no meaningful content whatsoever, only a bunch of marketing-like jargon and link spam. I clicked on those links to figure out what was going on and discovered that you were an employee of this entity, a practice which is highly discouraged on here. The article you mention above on the other facility at least contains some content to help readers understand why it's notable, plus a not-exhaustive Google search shows that it has at least received coverage in third-party sources (one such example). In the case of this facility, I could only find DTN's own website and social media-type promotional pages. That's the main difference; it makes this article out to be another of "your" social media sites. Your rationale is usually explained as "other stuff exists" and doesn't exactly hold up in deletion discussions. It's been to your benefit thus far that assuming good faith is practiced, but mainly that double standards abound, because this would have been deleted already if it covered a topic related to a for-profit entity rather than a university. Anyway, you appear to have glossed over my main point. You can browse through the contents of Category:University of Alaska Fairbanks and see plenty of evidence of subpar content created or maintained by employees of the university such as yourself. It's an insult to those Wikipedians who are alumni of this university and others who have endeavored to offer coverage that's of higher quality and balanced at the same time. @RadioKAOS: I've redirected to the page you suggested since I don't know what you want to merge there. It should be available in the history. If you feel like reverting, go ahead. TonyBallioni (talk) 02:25, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
