I'm afraid there are a lot of things that need addressing with this article. It isn't GA at this point - please look at some of the suggestions and comments I make below as to why I feel this. I'm happy to discuss or clarify if necessary. In view of all that I think it's too far away from GA to be 'held' whilst tweaks are done. I can genuinely say I don't want any of the editors to be disheartened by this as a lot of work has obviously gone into it. I'm guessing that the majority of work has either been done by either natural German speakers or by someone trying to translate from the original German source - I really don't think I could do anything similar! On that basis I am more than happy to volunteer to help re-write the content, translating it into more fluent English and addressing some of the inconsistencies and odd phrasing that is used. I think if that can be addressed and a bit more research done in some of the areas I think may be missing then it would be good for a GA pass in the near future.

I hope you find the feedback useful and that we can work together going forward. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 14:33, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Issues[edit]

Lead - this is too long and contains considerable amounts of information not included in the article itself. It should be a distillation and summation of the article rather than being the source of information itself.

Prose - there are major issues here. The prose jumps from future to present to past-tense throughout, as the show has now concluded it should be all couched in the past tense. There are also numerous phrases that don't make sense particularly in the contestant bios eg: 'DSDS is be the ninth', 'also a concert announcement for a concert', 'minor roles in weddings', 'Whitney Houston, James Morrison and Beyonce Knowles.' (as a sentence on it's own?), 'or for a cozy evening', 'was crying hardly when she left' and so on. There are also a lot of very short three or four word sentences which read more like a bulleted list than proper prose - a lot of these could be rewritten into longer, conjoined phrases which would flow better.

Structure and breadth - I think there's work to do here. There's no real explanation of the shows format or background, the reader is expected to know who the judges are, how the show works etc. There are bits and pieces dotted around but this all really needs bringing out more clearly. In general it'd be good to see some more sections to cover the above:

  • Background: dealing with the shows development (announcements of the new series, any info on judges coming and going, any discussion about the shows format - there's a huge amount of gossip about the X-Factor in the UK in the run up to a new season so I'm guessing there's info to be found.)
  • Format: Giving more information on how the show works, what the rounds are and how the voting works etc.
  • Production: Is there info about the actual making of the show - the companies involved, where the live shows were filmed, the main presenters info could go in here too?
  • Reception: Something detailing how the show fared, eg info about the decline in ratings, any reviews of criticisms received from the press or public - again there are bits of this in there, in the lead and elsewhere.
  • Aftermath: Maybe something detailing what happened after the series had ended - which of the contestants released records and how they fared, was there a show tour (the X-Factor have a big stadium tour with most of the live-show contestants on it), anything else that happened as a direct result of the series.
  • Controversy: That section is there but could do with rewriting, expanding and moving further down the structure - maybe after the show results and before a new reception section.

Other smaller points:

  • Consistency - things should be referred to in the same manner throughout - eg it swaps between contestants and candidates
  • Biogs - where a contestant has their own WP article it should use a 'main' or 'more details' tag to highlight this.
  • Group songs - as the individual songs have artists appended then these should have the same unless they were original compositions?
  • The colour coding for the individual results for each contestant - I realised what the green and pink meant eventually as it's a continuation from the table above but it wasn't clear (to me at least). Maybe there's a way to make that a bit more obvious?
  • What's 'safe first' and 'safe last'? I'm guessing it's part of the voting process but it's not clear - this is where a section detailing the format would help. the same goes for the jury forecasts.
  • There are other small bits and pieces, as per my conclusions at the top of the review I'm happy to help work on it going forward.

The refs look fine based on my German (which is OK but not fluent) and it seems pretty neutral in nature so no issues there. It could use a picture or two but I guess copyright free images might be hard to come by?
