Are cracktros display hacks?

[edit]

This is regarding the dubious statement "Crack intros, display hacks programmed by software crackers for the home computers of the 1980s"

It is my understanding that early cracktros were little more than static pictures with a name tag. Saying that cracktros are display hacks is a bit too inclusive at best, and at worst, it could be argued that they aren't display hacks any more than video games or WWW Flash advertisements. The main purpose of the cracktro is not to be a pretty display of computer graphics. It's just one of many devices used to further the reputation of the group resoponsible for the crack (or in many cases, propably, just a matter of convention and tradition). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.231.51.101 (talk) 17:03, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
